Riots, Racists & Doing something good
It’s been a difficult time in Bristol, and the UK in general, these last few weeks. As we look upon the destruction, racism and Islamophobia wrought by the far-right, it's all too easy to despair. To look at the violence, the hotels and businesses being set alight, the people attacked in the street, the sheer bloodthirsty hate and to feel hopeless. I know I have.
And yet, it's also vital to remember the huge number of people who aren't part of the small-minded minority, the ones who come out to help, to stand up to the fascist mob and defend those in need. We have seen our fair share of right-wing thuggery in Bristol but I was also heartened and proud of the actions of so many of the city's people in standing up to bigotry, racism and hate. This phrase, heard being chanted by the group defending the Mercure Hotel, just 10 minutes from my studio, struck such a chord that I wanted to do something helpful with it.
And so to the presses! I've produced this print in a quick run; 1 colour, A4 in an edition of 50. I'm putting them online for £18 only and all the proceeds will be donated to SARI - Stand Against Racism & Inequality - SARI is a fantastic Bristol-based charity who support victims of hate within our community. They also work with children, young people and schools to support pupils facing racist and other hate incidents, as well as providing anti-hate, equality, diversity and inclusion, and cultural awareness training.
Head over to the Go Fund Me Fundraiser, donate what you like and all donations over £18 will get a print sent out to them. Just remember to give me your address!
